New Delhi:  Government E-Marketplace (GeM) has transformed the public procurement process by creating a simplified portal for the purchase of an exhaustive list of products & services. The items have detailed specification, standards and catalogues with a provision to select the parameters as per actual requirements. This feature almost eliminates the need to refer to further external literature to finalise the technical specification of the tender in most cases.

NRL has benefited by the ease of procurement powered by the streamlining of applicable procedures done by GeM in this web-based solution. The inbuilt features ensure compliance to Govt of India policies focussed on its Make in India initiative and nurturing of small and medium enterprises. Due to the large vendor base of GeM, most tenders widely participate with substantial cost reductions.

NRL is a frontrunner having onboarded in GeM in 2017-18 and has procured over Rs. 4000 crores of goods till date. Last year it clocked Rs. 3829 crores which was the 2nd highest by value amongst CPSEs. During COVID pandemic, GeM played its part by identifying the essential items and offering a reduced bidding period for faster ordering. GeM has evolved by leaps and bounds becoming the procurement platform of choice.

NRL has embarked on its expansion plan which is one of the largest investments in the Northeastern region. NRL’s association with GeM shall only grow from here.
