GRSE Signs ₹33 Crore Contract for 2nd Refit of Seychelles Coast Guard Ship

Mumbai: Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE), a Government of India defence PSU, has signed a contract with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for the second refit of the Seychelles Coast Guard Ship PS Zoroaster. The contract, valued at approximately ₹33 crore (excluding GST), was formalized on February 6, 2026.

The refit is scheduled to commence in early March 2026 and will be completed within three months. The contract signing was conducted by Shri Prasanna Shrivastava, Joint Secretary (IOR), MEA, and Cdr Harish Kumar (Retd.), General Manager of GRSE, Kolkata.

The PS Zoroaster was originally built by GRSE and handed over to the Seychelles Coast Guard by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 8, 2021. The ship had previously undergone a short refit at GRSE in 2024.

The assignment aligns with India’s Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) vision, strengthening bilateral collaboration with Seychelles and contributing to regional maritime security. GRSE’s expertise in shipbuilding and maintenance, combined with its state-of-the-art infrastructure, allows it to handle such complex refits efficiently.

GRSE, a Schedule ‘A’ Mini Ratna PSU under the Ministry of Defence, has a rich legacy dating back to 1884 and has built over 800 platforms, including 115 warships for the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, and friendly foreign nations. The company continues to modernize its infrastructure and has the capability to construct 28 ships concurrently.
