Profit of PSBs expected to touch Rs 1 Lakh Cr in Q4 FY23

Public sector banks (PSBs) in India are expected to report a profit of Rs 1 lakh crore in the fourth quarter of FY23, indicating a significant improvement in their financial performance.

New Delhi: After the Public Sector Banks' (PSBs) good performance in the third quarter of the current financial year 2023, the banks may expect robust profit growth in their fourth quarter. 

The decline in bad loans and higher loan growth are one of the key factors which lead towards good performance in profit. Accordingly, Rs. 1 Lakh Crore can be expected in this quarter end, said sources.

Earlier in Q3 of FY23, 12 Public Sector Banks posted 65% YoY growth to Rs 29,175 crore, and in that Quarter Bank of Maharashtra stood as the top performer, and recorded a 139 % jump in profit to Rs 775 crore.

According to PTI Punjab & Sind Bank managing director Swarup Kumar Saha said, "The trend would continue in the fourth quarter. It is fairly possible that PSBs would be earning around Rs 30,000 crore in the fourth quarter and thus close the financial year 2022-23 with a profit of Rs 1 lakh crore"
