Jaipur | 25 October 2025: The Society of Petroleum Geophysicists (SPG) will host its 15th Biennial International Conference and Exposition from 26 to 28 October 2025 at the Novotel Jaipur Convention Centre and Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre (JECC), Jaipur. The three-day event will be inaugurated by the Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), Government of India, Shri Pankaj Jain, IAS, in the presence of Chairman & CEO, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), and Chief Patron, SPG-India, Shri Arun Kumar Singh; Oil India Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), Dr. Ranjit Rath; Director (Exploration), ONGC, and Patron, SPG-India, Shri O.P. Sinha; and President, SPG-India, Shri Ranbir Singh.
The conference theme, “Rock to Cloud: Geo-Exploration Empowering Energy Evolution,” captures the transformational journey of the energy industry—from the foundational science of the subsurface (“rock”) to the frontiers of digital innovation (“cloud”). It emphasizes how advancements in geoscience and technology are converging to address modern energy challenges, enhance efficiency, and enable the transition toward a sustainable, low-carbon future. This year’s conference comes at a decisive moment when the global energy landscape is undergoing rapid change.
Global energy demand is projected to grow by over 25 per cent by 2045, with oil and gas continuing to play a major role, providing more than half of the energy mix even as renewables expand at a record pace. In India, energy demand is expected to nearly double by 2040, driven by urbanization, industrialization, and rising living standards. Within this context, exploration remains a cornerstone of energy security, ensuring the availability of resources while adapting to decarbonization imperatives and technological disruption. When powered by robust geoscientific insight and digital transformation, exploration can significantly reduce the exploration-to-production cycle time, enhance seismic imaging precision, and improve subsurface predictability, thereby accelerating the nation’s energy progress.

SPG-2025 will continue this tradition of excellence, bringing together leading geoscientists, researchers, industry professionals, and academicians to deliberate on new ideas, solutions, and collaborations that can shape the future of energy exploration and sustainability. The Jaipur edition will feature four high-profile plenary sessions, where distinguished leaders, innovators, and policymakers will share insights on the evolving dynamics of India’s energy ecosystem and the pathways to a more resilient energy future. More than 20 technical sessions are scheduled, including a special session in Hindi, a dedicated theme session, and several invited lectures. The exposition will provide a platform for national and international exploration and production (E&P) companies, service providers, and technology vendors to display state-of-the-art innovations, tools, and services relevant to the energy sector.
A major highlight of SPG-2025 will be its Student Programme, designed to inspire, engage, and empower the next generation of geoscientists. Through interactive sessions, competitions, and mentorship initiatives, students will gain hands-on exposure to the world of geoscience and exploration. Flagship events such as the Industry–Academia Interaction, SPG Mastermind Quiz, Upstream Strategy Business Game, and Exploreathon aim to nurture creativity, teamwork, and innovation while connecting young minds with industry experts and mentors. By cultivating talent and confidence, SPG-2025 will prepare students to become the future leaders of India’s energy sector.

The Hackathon, introduced for the first time in collaboration with SLB Innovation Factori, New Delhi, is a pioneering hybrid competition that integrates geoscience and digital innovation in alignment with the conference theme “Rock to Cloud.” The Geoscience Career Symposium serves as a focused recruitment and mentorship platform, connecting energy sector organizations with talented students and young professionals, thus bridging academia and industry through career guidance and exposure to real-world opportunities. Post-conference, ten Continuing Education (CE) courses led by distinguished faculty will be offered, covering contemporary topics in geophysics, digital exploration, and energy transition.
Geophysics, the scientific foundation of petroleum exploration, is the non-invasive study of subsurface conditions through the measurement and interpretation of physical fields. It employs surface, airborne, and borehole methods to analyze properties such as density, resistivity, seismic wave velocity, elastic modulus, and magnetic susceptibility. Its applications extend across a vast range of disciplines, including oil, gas, coal, and mineral exploration; groundwater and geo-engineering studies; geohazard identification; urban and civil engineering surveys; archaeological exploration; and environmental and non-destructive testing.
The Society of Petroleum Geophysicists (SPG), India, was founded in 1992 by a group of visionary geoscientists in Dehradun. From a small collective of enthusiasts, SPG has evolved into a globally recognized professional body with over 3,500 members and nine regional chapters across India. The Society maintains close affiliations with leading international organizations such as the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), USA; the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), Netherlands; and the Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists (ASEG). With 18 active student chapters across the country, SPG plays a pivotal role in nurturing young geoscientists, promoting scientific exchange, and fostering innovation in hydrocarbon exploration and allied fields.
