SECI organised Pre-Bid Conference for setting up 1000 MWh of Battery Energy Storage System
It has received wide participation and interest from prospective bidders with a total being of 300 participants from more than 120 different companies from different geographies.

New Delhi: The pre-bid conference under the Chairmanship of Hon'ble Cabinet Minister (Power, New and Renewable Energy) and in attendance of Secretary (MNRE), Secretary (MoP), MD (SECI), and other officers of MNRE, MoP, and SECI was organized on 06th May 2022 through virtual mode by the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited, a CPSE under the administrative control of MNRE, for development of 1000 MWh of Battery Energy Storage System to be developed in Rajasthan on Build, Own, Operate and Transfer basis.
It has received wide participation and interest from prospective bidders with a total being of 300 participants from more than 120 different companies from different geographies.
Earlier Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) had released a Request for Selection Documents on 13.04.2022. As per the provisions of RfS Documents, Bidders will be provided land at Re 1, assured connectivity/grid access, and power offtake commitment of 60% of the capacity, and the developer is free to sell the balance 40% of the capacity in the market.
The Presentation was made on the terms and conditions, technical-commercial details, and also clarifications to queries received till 04.05.2022. Queries were primarily related to the land, project configuration, connectivity & grid access, storage offtake guarantee, transfer of assets, performance parameters, GST implications, etc.
This RfS provides for flexibility in choosing BESS technologies and selection of developer shall be through a transparent bidding process including an e-reverse auction.
The growth of renewable energy in India has been one of the key success stories of the Nation’s energy sector. Today, Solar and Wind power have become integral to the nation’s energy mix at par with the conventional energy sources.
India has already achieved the installation of 150 GW of RE capacity enroute the ambitious journey of installing 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity. With the share of RE in India’s energy mix significantly increasing, and in view of the targeted energy mix by 2030, it is pertinent to plan for optimum utilization of resources and selection of right resource mix including grid level energy storage systems to meet the projected energy demand of the country.
Current endeavor for development of 1000 MWh of Grid Connected BESS system is likely to pave a way for further development of Energy Storage System in the Country and providing flexibility, reliability and security to the Grid.
