'Annual Mine Safety Fortnight 2025' inaugurated at WCL

New Delhi: The 'Annual Mine Safety Fortnight 2025' was inaugurated at Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) by Shri Anandji Prasad, Director (Technical – Operations / Projects & Planning) on ​​17 November 2025. The occasion was graced by the presence of Director (Human Resources) Dr. Hemant Sharad Pande, Coal India Safety Board Member Shri CJ Joseph, Operations Committee Member Shri SR Gabale, General Manager (Safety & Rescue) Shri Dinesh Bisen, and all Heads of Departments from the WCL Headquarters.

This fortnight-long programme, held under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), will be observed across all 47 WCL mines (30 opencast and 17 underground) from 17 November 2025 to 01 December 2025.

During this fortnight, WCL mines will be inspected by multidisciplinary teams drawn from other mining areas of WCL. This cross-functional approach will ensure objectivity, knowledge sharing, and a unified focus on excellence in safety standards. The aim of the fortnight is to promote a culture of safety, vigilance, and continuous improvement in mining operations.

For the 'Annual Mine Safety Fortnight 2025', bench and dump slope stability, along with the safe storage, transportation, and use of explosives in mines, have been identified as the key focus areas.
