Bidding Goodbye to Stress: Mental Health and Smart Break Strategies During Board Exams

New Delhi: As the 10th and 12th board examinations approach, it isn't enough for students to just study. Managing exam stress is crucial too. Education experts say that mental health, quality sleep, and a balanced lifestyle are as important as understanding the syllabus during this period. This year, students should include 'smart breaks' and 'digital detox' in their routine while finishing their preparations.

Mental Health: The Foundation of Preparation
Stress directly affects memory and performance. Therefore, it's important to follow these simple mental health tips during preparation:

Set Small Goals: Set targets for every two hours, rather than for the whole day. Achieving small goals builds confidence.

Positive Self-Talk: Replace negative thoughts like "I will forget" or "I don't have enough time" with positive thoughts like "I am trying, and I can do this."

Communicate with Parents: Parents should avoid pressuring their children and focus on offering emotional support. Encourage children to share their concerns openly.

Sleep and Nutrition: Keys to Success
Many students reduce their sleep before exams, which is a big mistake.

Mandatory 7-8 Hours of Sleep: The brain processes and stores information during sleep. Getting 7 to 8 hours of quality sleep each night is vital for memory retention.

Balanced Diet: Avoid junk food and too much caffeine. Focus on fresh fruits, vegetables, and drink enough water. Foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, such as walnuts and seeds, are good for brain function.

Digital Detox and Smart Breaks
The biggest challenge for students today is the distraction from social media and mobile phones.

Fixed 'Off-Time': Completely turn off all non-academic apps and social media during study time. You can use 'Focus Apps' to help stay concentrated during your study sessions.

Use Smart Breaks: Instead of scrolling through your phone during breaks, try these active breaks:

5 Minutes of Stretching: Get up from your chair and stretch your shoulders and neck.

10 Minutes with Nature: Take a few deep breaths on the balcony or outside.

Water/Snack Break: Have a light snack to refresh your brain.

Pre-Exam Digital Detox: Experts suggest minimizing entertainment-related screen time for at least one week before the exams begin.

Conclusion: Success in board exams isn't just about textbooks. It's about keeping the right balance between preparation strategy, mental health care, and a disciplined lifestyle.
