BPCL Inaugurates Compressed Biogas Plant at Brahmapuram, Kochi to Process 150 TPD Waste
Kochi, February 28, 2026: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) marked a significant milestone in sustainable energy with the inauguration of its Compressed Biogas (CBG) Plant at Brahmapuram, Kochi.
The facility was inaugurated online by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan, who delivered the inaugural address. The ceremony was attended by Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Tourism Suresh Gopi, who delivered the keynote address.
The function was presided over by Hon’ble Minister for Local Self Governments, Rural Development & Excise M. B. Rajesh, with Hon’ble Minister of Law, Industries & Coir P. Rajeev attending as Guest of Honour.
Among other dignitaries present were Adv. P. V. Sreenijin, MLA Kunnathunadu; Adv. Minimol V.K., Mayor of Kochi Municipal Corporation; Sanjay Khanna, Director (Refineries) with Additional Charge of Chairman & Managing Director, BPCL; Chacko M Jose, Executive Director (Kochi Refinery); and George Thomas, Chief General Manager (HR), Kochi Refinery, who addressed the gathering.
Boost to Sustainable Waste Management
Designed to process 150 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day, the Brahmapuram CBG plant will convert biodegradable waste into:

5.6 tonnes of compressed biogas daily

28 tonnes of organic manure daily
The project strengthens sustainable waste management practices while contributing to clean energy generation in Kerala. It also aligns with India’s broader goals of reducing landfill dependency and promoting circular economy initiatives.
The event was further graced by senior officials including Smt. Anupama T.V., IAS, Secretary LSGD, Government of Kerala; Smt. Amrita Sanoop, President, Vadavucode Block Panchayat; Shri Reji Thomas, President, Vadavucode Puthencruz Grama Panchayat; Shri Geromic George, IAS, Principal Director LSGD; Shri Binu Francis, IAS, Executive Director, Suchitwa Mission; Shri Shaktimani, Chairman & Managing Director, FACT; and Shri Prince Gandhi, CEO, CEID.
