EIL Supports Vizhinjam Port Expansion as Phase-II Breakwater Achieves Key Milestone

New Delhi, July 7: Engineers India Limited (EIL) has marked a significant milestone in the expansion of Vizhinjam International Seaport with the successful completion of Season 1 of the Phase-II breakwater construction, a crucial step in transforming the port into one of India's largest deep-water transshipment hubs.

The expansion project, being undertaken by Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited (VISL), aims to increase the port's container handling capacity from 1 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) to 5.7 million TEUs, significantly enhancing its role in India's maritime trade and logistics network.

EIL is serving as the Independent Engineer for the project, providing technical expertise and engineering oversight during the expansion. The company worked closely with the VISL team to achieve the successful completion of the first construction season of the Phase-II breakwater.

The capacity expansion includes the development of an extended container berth and breakwater infrastructure, which will enable the port to accommodate higher cargo volumes and larger container vessels. Once completed, the project is expected to strengthen India's position as a global transshipment hub and reduce dependence on foreign ports for cargo handling.

EIL said the milestone reflects its expertise in executing complex infrastructure projects across ports, terminals, and maritime facilities. The company continues to support the development of modern logistics infrastructure through engineering solutions that promote efficiency, sustainability, and long-term economic growth.
