Engineers India Limited (EIL) to Build India's First Helium Recovery Plant in Tamil Nadu, Boosting Strategic Self-Reliance

New Delhi, January 18, 2026: In a landmark step towards securing India's strategic resources, Engineers India Limited (EIL) has announced the development of the nation's first Helium Recovery Demonstration Plant in Kuthalam, Tamil Nadu. This initiative directly supports the National Critical Mineral Mission, aiming to reduce India's heavy dependence on imported helium—a rare gas vital for futuristic industries.

EIL, a premier engineering consultancy in the energy sector, has signed an agreement to establish the pioneering facility. The plant is designed to recover Grade-A Helium with 99.995% purity from natural gas streams. This high-purity helium is a strategic resource indispensable for several high-tech sectors, including:

  • Space Exploration

  • Semiconductor Manufacturing

  • Fibre Optics

  • Cryogenics

  • Advanced Medical Technologies (e.g., MRI machines)
