January 12, 2026, Bengaluru: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is proud to announce that Shri Aritra Roy, noted Indian mountaineer, has summited Mt. Aconcagua in Argentina, the highest mountain outside Asia at 6,967.15 meters above Mean Sea Level. The solo expedition, completely sponsored by HAL, marks another major milestone in Shri Roy’s seven-summits challenge after Mount Everest. Shri Roy reached the summit on January 7, 2026, at 2:00 PM (local time), well ahead of schedule, after a gruelling 44-km trek and enduring extreme temperatures of -40°C, snowstorms, and blizzards. He was at the summit for 45 minutes before beginning his descent.
Congratulating him on the achievement, Dr D K Sunil, CMD, HAL, said, "The successful summit of Mount Aconcagua by Shri Aritra Roy is an inspiring story of determination, resilience, and unwavering focus. HAL is proud to have sponsored the expedition and congratulates Shri Aritra on this outstanding accomplishment and wishes him continued success in his future endeavours."
Shri Roy, in his message to HAL, said, “Ascending the Stone Sentinel (Mt. Aconcagua), one gasp of thin Andean air at a time was a test of faith and a deeply humbling moment. I am proud, honoured, and indebted to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for supporting me on this mission. The climb tested every ounce of my physical and mental strength, but by adapting to the situation and believing in my instincts, I was able to overcome this toughest challenge. I dedicate this summit to everyone who dares to dream big and work relentlessly towards their goals.”
