New Delhi: Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) reaffirmed its commitment to advancing India’s maritime capabilities at the 15th Annual Shipping & Logistics Conclave 2026, organised by The Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCC&I).

Speaking at the conclave, Cmde Vinith Aerat, IN (Retd.), CGM (B&TD, CC, NPD), GRSE, shared detailed insights on strengthening India’s shipbuilding and ship repair ecosystem.

Transformation into a Modern Defence PSU

He highlighted GRSE’s evolution from a historic shipyard into a modern, multi-unit defence public sector undertaking (PSU) with proven capability to execute multiple projects simultaneously. The shipyard today manages a strong and diversified order book spanning defence as well as commercial vessel segments.

GRSE has steadily expanded its export footprint while enhancing production capacity and project execution efficiency. The company’s transformation reflects its alignment with India’s broader maritime and defence manufacturing ambitions.

Focus on Infrastructure and Technology

Cmde Aerat underlined the company’s focus on infrastructure modernisation, advanced ship design capabilities and technology integration. Investments in digital shipbuilding tools, improved yard facilities and innovation-driven processes are aimed at strengthening competitiveness and delivery timelines.

He emphasized that strengthening domestic shipbuilding capacity is essential to support India’s maritime growth trajectory, reduce import dependence and build a globally competitive ecosystem.

Supporting India’s Maritime Vision

The conclave served as a platform for industry leaders, policymakers and maritime stakeholders to discuss strategies for enhancing India’s shipping and logistics capabilities.

GRSE’s roadmap reflects a larger push toward self-reliance in defence shipbuilding, export expansion and development of a robust ship repair infrastructure to meet both domestic and international demand.
