Harnessing Renewable Energy for Hydrogen Production:
The green hydrogen fuelling station will utilize electrolysis powered by renewable energy sources to produce approximately 80 kilograms of pure hydrogen per day. NTPC's subsidiary, NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd, is constructing a 1.25 MW solar power plant to ensure that the entire hydrogen production process operates solely on green energy. This integration of renewable energy into the production of hydrogen demonstrates India's commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
Addressing the Challenges of High-Altitude Operations:
Located at an altitude of 3,600 meters above sea level, the fuelling station will operate under extreme weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from -14 to +20 degrees Celsius. This challenging environment necessitates the implementation of robust infrastructure and cutting-edge technology to ensure the seamless operation of the hydrogen fuelling station. The success of this project will not only facilitate the adoption of hydrogen fuel cell technology in Ladakh but also pave the way for similar initiatives in other high-altitude regions.
Partnerships Driving Innovation:
NTPC has partnered with Amara Raja Power Systems, a leading power solutions provider, to handle the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) aspects of the project. This collaboration brings together the expertise of both organizations, ensuring the successful implementation and maintenance of the green hydrogen fuelling station. Additionally, Ashok Leyland, a renowned automobile manufacturer, will provide five hydrogen fuel cell buses for testing and demonstration purposes in the Ladakh region.
