NTPC Invites Bids for 800MW/3200MWh BESS Project at Khavda Solar Park
New Delhi, May 2026: NTPC Green Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has invited online bids for an EPC package for the development of a large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at its Khavda renewable energy park in Gujarat.
The project involves the development of an 800 MW / 3200 MWh grid-connected BESS system under a Domestic Competitive Bidding (DCB) process, to be executed on a turnkey Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis.
The bidding process will follow a Single Stage Two Envelope system, comprising techno-commercial bids and price bids, followed by a reverse auction.
Project Scope and Key Features
The proposed BESS facility will be developed at NTPC REL Khavda Solar Park and is designed to support large-scale renewable energy integration into the grid.
Key scope of work includes:
-
End-to-end design, engineering, supply, installation, and commissioning of BESS
-
Integration with solar plant infrastructure and ISTS grid system
-
Comprehensive O&M for 15 years with performance guarantees
-
Battery system design life of 25 years
-
Minimum 10,000 charge-discharge cycles requirement
-
Grid compliance, EMS and PPC integration
-
Fire safety systems compliant with IEC/IEEE/IS standards
The project is designed to ensure high operational efficiency, grid stability, and renewable energy balancing support.
Performance and Technical Requirements
The EPC contractor will be required to meet strict performance benchmarks, including:
-
Minimum 92% dispatchable capacity at point of injection over 15 years
-
80% minimum monthly round-trip efficiency (RTE)
-
98% annual system availability
-
Accounting for transmission and transformer losses during system design
-
Full compliance with CEA, CERC and LDC guidelines
The system must also include Energy Management System (EMS) and Hybrid Power Plant Controller (PPC) for integrated operation with solar generation assets.
Grid Integration and Infrastructure Scope
The scope includes complete integration with:
-
33 kV pooling substation system
-
ISTS switchyard interface
-
Solar + BESS hybrid operational framework
-
Grid scheduling and RLDC coordination systems
Contractors will also be responsible for civil works, auxiliary systems, testing, commissioning, and training of operational personnel.
Financing and Tender Details
The project will be financed through internal resources and borrowings.
The bidding documents will be available from May 25, 2026, on official portals including NTPC tender website and company websites.
About the Project
