Kochi, 25 November 2025: The ongoing dry-docking and major refit of ONGC’s Jack-Up Rig Sagar Kiran took centre stage as ONGC Chairman Shri Arun Kumar Singh, along with Director (Technology & Field Services) Shri Vikram Saxena, and Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) CMD Shri Madhu S. Nair, visited the facility at Cochin Shipyard Limited today. The visit was attended by senior officers from both ONGC and CSL.
The Sagar Kiran rig is being upgraded to Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit (MODU) 89 compliance, involving comprehensive steel renewals, pipe replacements, accommodation upgrades, and key equipment overhauls. These upgrades are aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, safety standards, and the rig’s overall offshore capabilities.
During the visit, the CSL senior team provided a detailed briefing on the project’s progress, outlining upcoming milestones and highlighting the shipyard’s expanded dry-dock and ship-repair capabilities available at Kochi. The collaboration reflects ONGC’s commitment to maintaining world-class operational standards for its offshore assets while leveraging domestic shipbuilding and repair infrastructure.
The refit of Sagar Kiran is a key part of ONGC’s ongoing strategy to modernize its offshore fleet to meet stringent industry standards and operational requirements, ensuring safe and efficient energy exploration activities.
