MECL achieves highest oil output since 1983 in Colombia’s Velásquez Field
Bogotá, Colombia, July 3, 2025. Mansarovar Energy Colombia Ltd. (MECL), a joint venture between ONGC Videsh Ltd. (India) and Sinopec (China), has announced a major production achievement: 5,153 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) in the Velásquez Field. This marks the highest output recorded since 1983.
This milestone highlights MECL’s ability to create value from mature fields through a strategic mix of global expertise and local operational skill.

A key contributor to this record output is well Vel-339, which alone produces 543 BOPD. The successful operation of this well shows the company's skill in finding and maximizing untapped potential even in long-established fields.
"This production peak is more than just a number. It reflects the unwavering commitment of our people, the technical skill of our Heavy Equipment Business Unit (HEBU), and the ongoing support of our shareholders," MECL said in a company statement.
