ONGC Welcomes New Leadership at Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas
The Government of India has appointed Dr Neeraj Mittal, IAS, as the new Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, marking a significant transition in the leadership of India’s energy administration.
A 1992-batch IAS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, Dr Mittal was previously serving as Secretary in the Department of Telecommunications. His appointment comes at a crucial time as India intensifies its focus on strengthening energy security, increasing domestic production and accelerating a sustainable energy transition.
Dr Mittal brings extensive experience from both state and central government, having worked across key sectors including e-Governance, transport, industrial promotion, commerce & industry, petroleum & natural gas, telecommunications and information technology. He has held senior positions such as Director in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Director in the Ministry of Communications & IT, and Commissioner of the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency.
At the international level, he served as Senior Advisor to the Executive Director at the World Bank Group, representing India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bhutan, and contributing to corporate governance, project approvals and policy formulation involving institutions such as IBRD, IDA, IFC and MIGA.
