Petronet LNG in Talks with Qatar for Early Recovery of Delayed Cargoes; Faces ₹625 Cr Claim
New Delhi, 5 November 2026: Petronet LNG Limited has informed the stock exchanges about newspaper publications that came to its knowledge on 5 November 2026, pursuant to Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
Talks with Qatar for Delayed Cargoes
Petronet LNG is in discussions with Qatar to secure early recovery of pending liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes that were delayed due to disruptions in West Asia.
According to Managing Director & CEO Akshay Kumar Singh:
-
Deliveries under the current Qatar supply arrangement have been severely affected by force majeure disruptions since March 2026.
-
Out of the roughly 75-80 cargoes expected during the eight-month period (March to October 2026), only about six cargoes have arrived.
-
Under normal circumstances, the company receives around 9-10 LNG cargoes a month from Qatar, with each conventional cargo carrying approximately 138,000 cubic metres of LNG.
Qatar has a long-term contract to supply Petronet with 7.5 million metric tonnes of LNG annually.
Arbitration Claim of ₹625 Crore
Owners of three LNG vessels engaged by Petronet LNG to bring gas from Qatar have initiated arbitration proceedings to recover dues of ₹625 crore plus taxes.
The vessels — Disha, Raahi and Aseem — operate under long-term charter agreements. Their operations have been largely suspended since March 2026 (except for limited use of one vessel for about seven days in June).
The claim amount stood at ₹89.30 crore as of 31 March 2026 and rose to ₹625.42 crore by 30 September 2026. Petronet LNG is contesting the claims.
