REC Ltd Strengthens RDSS Implementation Through Quality Assurance Workshop in Guwahati
Guwahati, July 6: REC Ltd., the nodal agency for the Government of India's Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), organized a two-day Quality Assurance Workshop in Guwahati on July 2 and 3. The programme aimed to improve the quality of power distribution projects and help officials learn better ways to carry out RDSS work.
The workshop brought together officers from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. During the event, they discussed ways to improve project quality and complete work according to the required standards.
One of the main parts of the workshop was a visit to RDSS project sites and storage facilities. Participants checked the quality of ongoing work, observed good construction practices, and learned how proper planning and monitoring can improve project results.
The sessions covered important topics such as quality inspection, Standard Bidding Document (SBD) rules, geo-tagging of project assets, fixing defects, and maintaining high standards during project execution. Experts also shared practical suggestions to help teams avoid common mistakes and improve overall performance.
The workshop was attended by Shri Bijoy Sankar Baruah, Chief General Manager (Projects, Planning & Design) and Nodal Officer for RDSS at APDCL; Shri Yogendra Singh, General Manager and Head of Department (PMD–Quality), REC Ltd.; Shri Uttam Kumar Bargayary, Chief Manager, REC Regional Office Guwahati; Shri Pankaj Kapsimay, Chief Manager (PMD–Quality); and Shri Aurabind Pal, Manager, REC Regional Office Guwahati.
Officials from power distribution companies (DISCOMs), turnkey contractors (TKCs), third-party quality monitoring agencies (TPQMAs), and project management agencies (PMAs) also took part in the programme. Their participation helped create a platform to share experiences, solve common challenges, and improve coordination among all teams involved in RDSS projects.
REC Ltd. said such training programmes are important for building skilled teams and ensuring that power projects are completed with better quality. By sharing knowledge and promoting good working practices, the workshop is expected to support the development of a stronger and more reliable power distribution system across Northeast India.
As RDSS projects continue in different states, programmes like this will help improve electricity infrastructure and provide better power services to consumers.
