Rourkela Steel Plant Shines in Q1 with Over 36,000 Tonnes of Exports!

SAIL RSP Global Footprint: It looks like Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is starting the new fiscal year exactly how it wanted.

The company’s flagship Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) based in Odisha has just dropped its first-quarter numbers for FY 2026-27, and the international orders are looking incredibly healthy.

The facility managed to ship a whopping 36,033 tonnes of prime steel products to overseas buyers in just three months.

When you look closely at what exactly is selling in the global market, it is clear that Rourkela's high-tech New Plate Mill (NPM) is doing most of the heavy lifting.

The specialized mill alone rolled out and dispatched 26,811 tonnes of premium steel plates to international clients. The remaining export basket was split between 8,313 tonnes of Hot Rolled (HR) coils and a neat batch of 909 tonnes of standard HR plates.

But a massive export spike like this doesn't just fall into place by accident, especially when global supply chains are so unpredictable right now.

Behind the scenes, the management at RSP has been aggressively reworking their production lines and syncing them directly with port logistics.

By cutting down the usual administrative delays and optimizing their shipping timelines, the plant has dramatically improved its on-time delivery record.

This operational turnaround is doing two things at once: it is boosting SAIL's profit margins through dollar revenues and making Rourkela a highly reliable name for international buyers who hate waiting for their shipments.
