Govt notifies amendment to National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008
New Delhi: The government has recently issued an amendment to the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008 for the users of National Expressways that are only partially operational.
As per the new provision whenever the National Highway will be closed end to end, then the toll fee will be charged for the completed length at a lower rate, according to the rule under the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collections) Rules, 2008.
However, earlier, the user fee on the National Expressways was charged 25% more than usual National Highways user fee for the completed length as they provide accessible, faster, and smooth travel experience with comfortable routes to commuters and the fee was levied for the completed section even if the Expressway is not totally open, end to end.
The amendment rules will be effected from 15th February, 2026, with the rule mentioned under National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) (Amendment) Rules, 2008 and will be valid for up to one-year from the date of proceed of amendment or until the Expressways will become fully operational. This would promote the use of National Expressways that are not fully operational and would help in decongesting the existing National Highways routes while enabling faster movements for casuals, logistics, and passengers.
