New Delhi: India's Public Sector Company, which operates under the Ministry of Defence, BEML Limited, has been awarded the prestigious Golden Peacock Eco-Innovation Award 2025 for its indigenously developed, all-electric BRS-21 Rope Shovel—a groundbreaking advancement in sustainable mining technology.

This recognition was presented to Shri Rajeev Kumar Gupta, Director (Rail & Metro), by Shri H. D. Kumaraswamy, Hon’ble Union Cabinet Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel, Government of India, during the 26th International Conference on Environment Management and Climate Change, hosted by the Institute of Directors (IOD) on June 26–27, 2025.

The BRS-21 marks a major step in India’s journey towards eco-conscious industrial solutions. As the nation’s first electric rope shovel, it is designed to reduce carbon emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and promote cleaner mining operations—embodying BEML’s commitment to sustainable, self-reliant innovation.

Adding to the occasion, Shri Gupta also spoke at a special session on Climate Change, where he shared BEML’s ongoing initiatives to integrate sustainability into its operations and product strategy. Key highlights included:

The development of electric variants of heavy-duty mining equipment, Adoption of solar power across BEML’s manufacturing facilities, Proactive measures to lower the company’s carbon footprint through green design and practices.
