10,000+ Runners Join MCL Hirakud International Half Marathon 2026 at Hirakud Dam
Sambalpur, Odisha: In a spectacular celebration of fitness, unity, and sporting excellence, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) successfully hosted the MCL Hirakud International Half Marathon, drawing participation from over 10,000 athletes from India and abroad.
The marathon was flagged off by Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Union Minister of Education, along with Shri Suresh Pujari, Hon’ble Minister of Revenue & Disaster Management; Shri Rabi Narayan Naik, Hon’ble Minister of Panchayati Raj, Rural Development & Drinking Water; and Shri Suryanshi Suraj, Hon’ble Minister of Sports & Youth Services, Odia Language, Literature & Culture. Members of Parliament, MLAs, senior officials from Coal India Limited, and Shri Uday Anant Kaole, CMD, MCL, along with Functional Directors, CVOs, and officials from the Sambalpur District Administration were also present on the occasion.
Global Participation at Iconic Hirakud
Set against the picturesque backdrop of the iconic Hirakud Dam, the event featured multiple race categories — 21 km (Half Marathon), 10 km, 5 km, and a 1.5 km Fun Run — encouraging participation across age groups and fitness levels.
The marathon witnessed enthusiastic participation from international runners representing Kenya, Nigeria, Bhutan, and other nations, alongside athletes from across India, underscoring its growing global appeal.
