Bilaspur, February 4, 2026: The Coal India Inter-Company Hockey Tournament 2025–26 began with great fanfare at the Late Shri B.R. Yadav International Hockey Stadium, Bahtarai, Bilaspur. Hosted by South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) after a gap of ten years, the tournament brings together eight subsidiary teams competing for top honours from 4–7 February 2026.

The inaugural ceremony witnessed an energetic march-past by all participating teams, followed by the formal opening with a symbolic goal scored by the dignitaries. Shri Biranchi Das, Director (Human Resources), graced the event as the Chief Guest, with Director (Finance) Shri D. Sunil Kumar and Chief Vigilance Officer Shri Himanshu Jain as Special Guests. The event also saw participation from officials, labour union representatives, and members of SECL’s Welfare and Regional Committees.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Biranchi Das said, “Sports foster unity and positive energy within an organisation. This tournament stands as a symbol of sportsmanship and coordination across the Coal India family.” The opening ceremony was further enlivened by Bhangra performances, a welcome song by SECL employees, and vibrant Chhattisgarhi folk dances, creating a festive atmosphere for players and spectators alike.
