Kitchen & Multi-Purpose Hall Dedicated to Inmates of Kokrajhar District Jail under NTPC Bongaigaon CSR
In a major step towards strengthening rehabilitation and welfare infrastructure at Kokrajhar District Jail, the newly developed Kitchen & Multi-Purpose Hall was formally dedicated to the inmates recently by Smt. Masanda M. Pertin, IAS, District Commissioner, Kokrajhar, in the presence of Shri Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, officials from NTPC Bongaigaon and the District Administration.
New Delhi: In a major step towards strengthening rehabilitation and welfare infrastructure at Kokrajhar District Jail, the newly developed Kitchen & Multi-Purpose Hall was formally dedicated to the inmates recently by Smt. Masanda M. Pertin, IAS, District Commissioner, Kokrajhar, in the presence of Shri Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, officials from NTPC Bongaigaon and the District Administration. The facility has been developed under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of NTPC Bongaigaon, following the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed earlier with the District Administration for supporting institutional infrastructure improvement in the district. This intervention is in line with the Government of Assam’s ‘Karagar se Karigar’ (From Prison to Artisan) programme, ensuring avenues for skill development, vocational training, and reformation-based activities that support inmates in rebuilding their lives and reintegrating into society.
Speaking during the dedication ceremony, Smt. Masanda M. Pertin appreciated NTPC’s committed efforts towards enhancing rehabilitation facilities and improving the quality of life for jail inmates. She expressed confidence that the newly created infrastructure would significantly contribute to behavioural transformation and skill-based empowerment. Shri Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, reiterated NTPC’s belief in “People Before Profit,” noting that the organisation’s CSR initiatives are designed to bring meaningful progress to the most vulnerable sections of society. He shared that NTPC continues to support the district through impactful interventions covering healthcare, education, livelihood enhancement, and infrastructure development.
The programme was attended by Smt. Kabita Deka, ACS, Additional District Commissioner,Kokrajhar Shri Dhrubajyoti Das, ACS, Assistant Commissioner, Superintendent of Kokrajhar District Jail, Shri Amit Kumar Asthana, AGM (HR), NTPC Bongaigaon, officials of the PWD (Building) Department, and members of the CSR and Civil team of NTPC Bongaigaon. Constructed at a financial outlay of Rs. 32.82 lakh, the facility ensures improved nutritional services, structured recreational & vocational opportunities, and a more humane living environment—fostering dignity and rehabilitation-focused living for the inmates.
This initiative reinforces NTPC Bongaigaon’s commitment to supporting institutional strengthening and social upliftment in the region, ensuring rehabilitation, reintegration, and a hopeful future for inmates.
