NTPC Korba Launches GEM 7.0 to Empower 122 Young Girls
New Delhi: In a major step toward community development and women’s empowerment, NTPC Limited has launched the seventh edition of its flagship Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM 7.0) at its Korba unit.
The four-week fully residential programme aims to nurture confidence, leadership, and holistic growth among young girls from the region.
Programme Inaugurated by NTPC Leadership
The initiative was inaugurated by Kishore Chandra Patra, Business Unit Head, NTPC Korba, in the presence of senior officials, community members, parents, and representatives from the Maitri Mahila Samiti and CISF.
During the registration ceremony, GEM kits were distributed to all participants, marking the beginning of their transformative journey.
122 Girls Enrolled for Holistic Development
This year, 122 girls aged 10–12 years from the Korba region have joined the programme, reflecting growing community trust in the initiative.
Over the next four weeks, participants will receive training in:

Yoga, sports, and self-defence

Arts, music, and health awareness

Communication skills and personality development

Leadership and time management
The programme is designed to build confidence, skills, and aspirations among young girls.
Inspiring Stories from GEM Alumni
The launch event featured cultural performances and inspiring stories from alumni of previous GEM batches. Many past participants have pursued higher education and become role models in their communities.
Since its inception, the Girl Empowerment Mission at NTPC Korba has impacted nearly 660 girls from 41 schools across 36 villages and urban wards, showcasing the programme’s long-term social impact.
