Ranchi, May 23, 2026 – Reinforcing its commitment to environmental stewardship and community health, NTPC Mining Limited successfully conducted a massive Swachhata Abhiyan (Cleanliness Drive) at the historic Kanke Dam today. The event was held as part of the nationwide observance of Swachhata Pakhwada 2026.

The cleanliness drive, which commenced on Saturday morning (May 23, 2026), witnessed an overwhelming response from diverse groups, including NTPC employees, their family members, local youth, and students.

A Collective Effort for a Cleaner Tomorrow

The drive was distinguished by the active collaboration with VartaVox, a prominent youth organization dedicated to empowering young voices and driving social impact. Joining forces with VartaVox, students from Sharda Global School turned up in large numbers, bringing infectious energy to the event. These young volunteers enthusiastically swept the dam premises, collected plastic waste, and helped restore the cleanliness of the surrounding recreational areas.

Leadership Applauds the Initiative

The occasion was graced by two distinguished chief guests who lauded the participants' dedication:

  • Smt. Punam Jain, President, SSLC (NTPC)

  • Shri. Prabhat Ram, GM-HR, NTPC Mining Limited (NML)

Addressing the gathering, Smt. Punam Jain highlighted the critical role of public participation in maintaining national heritage sites. Shri. Prabhat Ram appreciated the proactive efforts taken by the NTPC family and the students, noting that such drives are essential for promoting environmental awareness and behavioral change within the community.

Beyond Cleaning: A Football Match for Community Bonding

Understanding that social cohesion is key to sustainable change, NTPC Mining also organized a friendly football match at the Kanke Dam Ground. The match saw spirited participation from nearby villagers alongside NTPC staff.

The sporting event served as a unique platform to encourage community bonding and sportsmanship, bridging the gap between the corporate entity and the local residents. The friendly competition concluded on a positive and energetic note, with cheers echoing across the dam.

Positive Conclusion

The Swachhata Abhiyan successfully combined physical labor with recreational harmony. By removing several kilograms of waste from the dam area and engaging local youth in constructive dialogue about cleanliness, NTPC Mining Limited has once again demonstrated its dedication to the "Swachh Bharat" mission.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks and a pledge by all attendees to maintain the cleanliness of Kanke Dam beyond the Pakhwada period.
