Oil India rolls out CSR Project ‘OIL Shakti’ to promote menstrual health in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh
Oil India Limited (OIL), in collaboration with the Oil Industry Rural Development Society (OIRDS), has rolled out community-based sanitary napkin production and distribution units under the soft launch of its CSR initiative Project OIL Shakti in Madhuting and Kathalguri in Assam, and Dumpani in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The initiative aims to strengthen menstrual health management through a culturally sensitive, community-led approach. By combining awareness programmes with local participation, Project OIL Shakti seeks to improve access to affordable sanitary products, break long-standing myths around menstruation, and encourage open, informed conversations among women and adolescent girls.
As part of the rollout, OIL and OIRDS organised interactive awareness sessions, quizzes and the Red Dot Challenge to normalise discussions around menstrual health. Educational materials, including MAINA comic books, leaflets, and PAHI sanitary pads, were distributed to reinforce key messages in an engaging and accessible manner.
The project places strong emphasis on women’s empowerment by creating local livelihood opportunities through community-managed production units, while simultaneously addressing critical health and hygiene needs in rural and remote areas.
With Project OIL Shakti, Oil India Limited continues to advance its commitment to inclusive development, women’s empowerment and community well-being—strengthening grassroots health awareness while fostering sustainable social impact across the Northeast.
