Hon’ble Finance Minister Visits NTPC Stall, Interacts with North-East Interns under Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme in Shillong

Shillong, 10th July 2025: The Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS) North-East Roundtable was successfully organised today at the Courtyard by Marriott, Shillong. The special interaction was graced by Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Hon’ble Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Government of India, along with Shri Conrad K. Sangma, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya, and other dignitaries.
Bringing together interns engaged under the PMIS across the North-East, the event served as a platform for young participants to share their experiences and aspirations. As part of the exhibition walkthrough, Smt. Sitharaman and Shri Sangma visited the NTPC stall, manned by interns and NTPC officials, which showcased immersive AR/VR modules designed to familiarise students with power plant operations — a step reflecting NTPC’s commitment to advanced skill-building.

Addressing the gathering, Smt. Sitharaman underlined the Government’s vision for bridging the gap between academics and industry through schemes like PMIS, enabling India’s youth to become future-ready and globally competitive. She acknowledged the valuable role played by PSUs like NTPC in mentoring interns with modern tools and real-time exposure. Emphasising the North-East’s integration into India’s growth story, she highlighted how such initiatives help first-generation graduates and young women gain equal access to professional opportunities.
In his address, Shri Conrad K. Sangma reiterated the Meghalaya Government’s strong partnership with national skilling initiatives and thanked the Central Government for choosing Shillong as the hub for this North-East interaction. He also encouraged local youth to seize opportunities under PMIS to strengthen their capabilities and contribute to the state’s and the nation’s progress.

The programme included an experience-sharing session by interns, the screening of the PMIS film, and the felicitation of dignitaries. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri Jagdish Chelani, Joint Secretary, Government of Meghalaya, followed by high tea.
NTPC’s active participation in PMIS demonstrates its dedication to nurturing the next generation through meaningful, tech-enabled industry exposure — supporting India’s mission to build a skilled, confident workforce for tomorrow.
