Chandigarh University Ranks Among India’s Top Research-Intensive Universities with 5,519 Patents
Chandigarh University strengthens its global research standing with over 5,500 patents, 20,000+ publications and 44 faculty in the world’s top 2% scientists list.

Chandigarh, December 22, 2025: Chandigarh University (CU) has strengthened its position as one of India’s top research-driven private universities, recording significant achievements in patents, publications, global rankings and innovation during 2025.
The university has filed 5,519 patents, of which 5,212 have been published and 238 granted, alongside producing over 20,000 research publications across diverse academic disciplines. In 2025 alone, CU filed 1,247 patents, reflecting its strong focus on applied research and innovation.
Strong Performance in Global and National Rankings
Chandigarh University secured the 9th position among private universities in India for International Research and 12th position overall in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026. It also made an impressive debut in the NIRF Rankings 2025 (Research Category), ranking 7th among private universities and 34th nationwide.
Faculty Recognition on Global Platform
Highlighting its growing global academic influence, 44 faculty members of Chandigarh University were featured in the Stanford University–Elsevier 2025 list of the World’s Top 2% Scientists. The list recognises researchers whose work ranks among the most cited globally, based on Scopus data and composite citation indicators.
Innovation, Patents and Industry Collaboration
According to the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks, CU’s Technology Business Incubator (CU-TBI) ranked first in India for filing the highest number of patent applications during 2023-24. The university has also remained among the top five patent-filing institutions in India over the last five years.
CU currently operates 15 industry-sponsored advanced R&D laboratories, 32 Centres of Excellence, and 60 research centres, supported by global companies such as Microsoft, Cisco, IBM, Hyundai, Adobe, Capgemini and Tech Mahindra. Over the last five years, the university has received ₹90 crore in sponsored research funding from the Ministry of Science & Technology.
Nurturing Future Scientists and Entrepreneurs
Chandigarh University continues to support innovation beyond academics through initiatives such as Campus Tank, India’s first university-led startup launchpad with a $6 million funding pool. More than 250 startups have been launched by CU students, while the university allocates ₹15 crore annually for research and innovation projects.
The university also hosts advanced facilities like the Kalpana Chawla Centre for Research in Space Science and Technology, inaugurated by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, offering students exposure to satellite communication, space research and aerospace technologies.
