BPCL’s 150-TPD Compressed Biogas Plant Inaugurated at Brahmapuram, Kochi

The 150-TPD Compressed Biogas (CBG) Plant at Brahmapuram in Kochi was inaugurated by Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala, in the presence of Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi, marking a major milestone in sustainable waste management and clean energy generation.

The event was presided over by M. B. Rajesh, Minister for Local Self Government Department (LSGD) and Excise, while P. Rajeev, Minister for Law, Industries and Coir, attended as the Guest of Honour. The inauguration ceremony was also attended by several distinguished dignitaries and senior officials.

Funded by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, the plant has been designed to process 150 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day, producing 5.6 tonnes of compressed biogas and 28 tonnes of organic manure daily. The project is expected to significantly strengthen Kochi’s waste management system while contributing to India’s clean energy initiatives.

Engineering consultancy division FEDO of The Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Limited served as the Project Management Consultant, ensuring high standards of quality execution and timely completion of the project.

The function was attended by Shri S. Sakthimani, CMD of FACT, and Shri Anupam Misra, Director (Marketing), FACT. Officials from the Government of Kerala, Kochi Municipal Corporation, BPCL and FACT were also present.

During the ceremony, FEDO received appreciation from the Mayor of Kochi Municipal Corporation for its significant contribution to the successful execution of the project.

This initiative further reinforces FACT’s commitment to sustainable development, efficient waste management and nation-building initiatives.
