Foreign investors pumped nearly 12,000 crore rupees into the Indian capital markets in just six trading sessions this month. As per depositories data, Foreign Portfolio investors or FPIs injected 11,823 crore rupees into equities and 3,316 crore rupees into the debt markets in March, taking the net investment into the Indian capital markets to 15,139 crore rupees during the month. 

This came following an investment of 1,539 crore rupees in equities and 22,419 crore rupees in the debt market in February.

Earlier, FPIs injected over 19,800 crore rupees into the country’s debt market in January, making it the highest monthly inflow in more than six years. This was the highest inflow since June 2017, when they infused 25,685 crore rupees. However, they pulled out 25,743 crore rupees from the equities markets.

They also infused 18,302 crore rupees in the debt market in December, 14,860 crore rupees in November, and 6,381 crore rupees in October. FPIs pumped in Rs 1.7 trillion approximately into domestic stocks in 2023, one of the highest net inflows ever witnessed during a calendar year, of which 25 percent went into the direct buying of stocks.
