During the event, Dr. Bhagawati emphasised on the importance of early recognition of mental health challenges, practical techniques for managing academic pressure, and the role of self-awareness in making informed life decisions.
Students participated in guided exercises to improve focus and reduce stress and were encouraged to seek support and engage in open dialogue.
“I never realized how much stress I was carrying until this session,” commented a second-year student at Sarupathar College. “Dr. Bhagawati’s talk helped me understand that it’s okay to ask for help and that mental health is something we should talk about openly. I feel more confident and supported now.”
Often referred to as the country’s “demographic dividend”, India has the largest youth population in the world with about 65% of its people under the age of 35*. Cairn’s initiative reinforces the need for emotional well-being alongside education and healthcare.
A Cairn Oil & Gas spokesperson said, “We believe that mental health is just as vital as physical health. Our goal was to create a safe and supportive space for young people to learn, share, and build emotional resilience. This initiative is part of our long-standing commitment to the holistic well-being and development of communities in the North East, especially Assam.”
The session concluded with a lively Q&A, where students shared personal stories, experiences and sought guidance, highlighting the importance of stigma-free conversations around mental health.
