Manila, Philippines – February 4, 2026: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) today celebrated 30 years of its European Representative Office, underscoring Europe’s vital role in advancing sustainable development across Asia and the Pacific.
“Europe has partnered with ADB for decades, contributing over $30 billion in financing, along with expertise and innovation that deliver real results for communities across the region,” said ADB President Masato Kanda. “At the same time, ADB opens doors for European companies to access Asia’s dynamic markets.”
Since its founding in 1966, European members have provided:
-
$18 billion+ in project cofinancing
-
Nearly $2 billion in trust fund contributions
-
28% of the Asian Development Fund, supporting the poorest communities
European companies have won contracts exceeding $15 billion, delivering projects in energy, transport, water, and agriculture. The anniversary highlighted upcoming business opportunities, including roadshows across Europe in 2026, enabling firms to engage with ADB’s growing project pipeline.
The event was attended by prominent officials such as Pasi Hellman, Finland’s Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, and Johann Saathoff, Germany’s Parliamentary State Secretary for Economic Cooperation, along with ambassadors, ADB Board members, and development partners.
