India-Sweden Green Steel MoU: SAIL, NMDC & MOIL Join SRTMI-SWERIM Partnership

India-Sweden Green Steel MoU: SAIL, NMDC & MOIL Join SRTMI-SWERIM Partnership

New Delhi / Sweden: The Steel Research Technology Mission of India (SRTMI) and Sweden’s metals research institute SWERIM have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation in iron and steel research, technology and innovation.

The MoU was signed in Sweden in the presence of the Secretary, Ministry of Steel, senior officials from the Ministry, and the CMDs of SAIL, NMDC and MOIL.

The collaboration will focus on joint R&D, exchange of scientific and technical knowledge, and work in key areas including:

  • Decarbonisation and green steel

  • Circular economy and resource efficiency

  • Advanced and high-performance steels

  • Digital technologies including AI and machine learning

  • Capacity building and training

This partnership aims to support sustainable steel development by combining India’s industry focus with Sweden’s expertise in advanced and clean metallurgy.
