IRCTC and Mizoram Tourism to collaborate for ecotourism and international travel packages
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is set to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Mizoram tourism department to jointly promote tourism and sustainable travel in the northeastern state, a senior official confirmed.
According to IRCTC tourism officer Lalsawmliana Hmar, the agreement is expected to be finalized next week. The collaboration aims to enhance regional connectivity, promote ecotourism, and offer personalized travel experiences highlighting Mizoram’s natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.
As part of the initiative, IRCTC will market Mizoram’s tourism potential to both domestic and international audiences. In addition, the corporation plans to offer outbound travel opportunities to residents of Mizoram, including affordable tour packages to destinations such as Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and several countries in Europe.
Established in 1999, IRCTC is a Navratna public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Railways. It provides services in ticketing, catering, and tourism for Indian Railways.
In a move to diversify its offerings, IRCTC also plans to launch Christian pilgrimage tours to destinations of spiritual significance. These include Corinth, Thessaloniki, Athens, and Patmos in Greece, as well as Rome in Italy.
“We recently organized a successful pilot tour for a group of pastors from Mizoram to these pilgrimage destinations. Our goal is to work closely with the state tourism department to arrange more such spiritual tours in an organized and accessible format,” Hmar added.
The partnership marks a significant step in promoting sustainable and inclusive tourism in the Northeast while also broadening travel options for residents of the region.
