President Confers Swachh Survekshan 2024–25 Awards; Indore Tops Cleanliness Rankings for Eighth Year

President Murmu honors Indore as India's cleanest city in Swachh Survekshan 2025 awards.
New Delhi, The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs held the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, presented national honors to the top-performing cities in urban sanitation and cleanliness.
Indore kept its title as the cleanest city in India for the eighth year in a row, followed by Surat and Navi Mumbai. These cities joined the elite “Super Swachh League,” a group that recognizes consistent excellence in urban hygiene.

Ahmedabad, Bhopal, and Lucknow were named India’s new generation of clean cities. In addition, 34 cities from various States and Union Territories received “Promising Clean Cities” awards under the ‘One City, One Award’ principle.
President Murmu praised the cities for adopting the principles of circular economy and cleanliness. She highlighted the role of youth, startups, and self-help groups in promoting sustainable change. She also commended smaller cities for setting high standards, stating that the commitment to Swachh Bharat is now part of citizens’ values and everyday lives.
Union Minister Shri Manohar Lal introduced the “Swachh City Partnership” initiative. Under this program, 78 top-performing cities will mentor those that are underperforming. He also announced the “Accelerated Dumpsite Remediation Program.” This one-year initiative, starting on August 15, 2025, aims to speed up the clearance of legacy waste and improve scientific waste processing.
Special recognitions included:
- Prayagraj as Best Ganga Town
- Secunderabad Cantonment as Best Cantonment Board
- GVMC Visakhapatnam, Jabalpur, and Gorakhpur as Best SafaiMitra Surakshit Shehar
- Uttar Pradesh Government and Prayagraj Municipal Corporation for notable waste management during Mahakumbh

Secretary Shri Srinivas Katikithala reflected on the Swachh Bharat Mission's decade-long journey. He stressed the need to plan for Viksit Bharat by 2047. He noted that the updated survey framework, which includes 10 new parameters and five population categories, allows for fair competition between large and small cities.
The event concluded with the digital launch of the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Results Dashboard. A handcrafted sarangi was presented to the President, representing the “waste to wealth” idea.
