NITI Aayog Partners Sikkim Government to Drive Frontier Development Agenda in North-East
New Delhi: NITI Aayog, working closely with the Government of Sikkim, convened a high-level Frontier State Development Workshop in Gangtok, setting the stage for a coordinated policy push to unlock economic and social potential across India’s North-Eastern region.
The two-day engagement brought together senior policymakers, domain experts and development practitioners from all eight North-Eastern states, reinforcing the Centre’s strategy of cooperative federalism and inter-state collaboration.
The discussions were led by Suman K. Bery, Vice Chairperson of NITI Aayog, alongside Ramesh Chand, Member, NITI Aayog, and Ravindra Telang, Chief Secretary of Sikkim. Maj Gen K Narayanan, Programme Director at NITI Aayog, and senior officials from multiple state departments also participated.
Key focus areas included scaling organic and high-value agriculture, building resilient innovation ecosystems, strengthening local entrepreneurship, and integrating frontier regions into national value chains. Officials emphasised the importance of community-driven development models, better infrastructure planning, and innovation-led livelihood creation to generate long-term economic momentum.
The workshop concluded with a renewed commitment to data-driven governance, enhanced centre-state coordination, and policy frameworks aimed at delivering inclusive and environmentally sustainable growth in India’s strategically vital North-East.
