IGL Appoints Ajai Tyagi as Head of Business Development & Corporate Strategy
New Delhi, June 2026: Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), one of India's leading city gas distribution companies, has announced a key senior management change with the appointment of Ajai Tyagi as Head of Business Development & Corporate Strategy, effective June 1, 2026.
The company disclosed the development in a regulatory filing submitted to the stock exchanges under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
According to the filing, Tyagi, who currently serves as Executive Director (Project Expediting), will take over the role from Sanjeev Kumar Bhatia, who has superannuated from the company with effect from June 1, 2026.
Veteran CGD Professional Takes Charge
Ajai Tyagi brings nearly 36 years of professional experience, including approximately 23 years in the City Gas Distribution (CGD) sector. A graduate in Electrical Engineering, he joined IGL in 2003 and has played a significant role in operations and project execution across the company's expanding gas distribution network.
Over the years, Tyagi has been associated with several strategic initiatives related to project development, infrastructure expansion, and operational excellence within the organization.
Strategic Importance of the Role
The Business Development & Corporate Strategy function plays a critical role in identifying growth opportunities, driving expansion plans, evaluating strategic investments, and supporting long-term business planning.
The appointment comes at a time when India's city gas distribution sector is witnessing accelerated growth, supported by increasing natural gas penetration, government initiatives promoting cleaner fuels, and expanding CGD infrastructure across urban and semi-urban markets.
Leadership Transition
The management transition follows the retirement of Sanjeev Kumar Bhatia, who headed the Business Development & Corporate Strategy function until his superannuation.
IGL stated that the appointment has taken effect immediately and forms part of the company's ongoing leadership succession and organizational development initiatives.
Industry Outlook
As one of India's largest city gas distribution companies, IGL continues to focus on network expansion, customer acquisition, compressed natural gas (CNG) infrastructure development, and strengthening its position in the evolving clean-energy ecosystem.
Market participants are expected to closely watch the company's future growth strategy under the leadership of the newly designated business development head, particularly as the natural gas sector gains increasing prominence in India's energy transition roadmap.
