Chennai Metro Track Chief J Kumar to Continue Till May 2027
New Delhi, June 1, 2026: The Ministry of Railways has approved the extension of deputation of J Kumar, formerly Assistant Executive Engineer (AXEN), Southern Railway, with Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) for an additional period up to the fifth year.
According to an order issued by the Railway Board, J Kumar, a Civil Engineering officer, will continue serving as Deputy Chief Manager (Track) at CMRL until May 11, 2027, or until CMRL is exempted from the rule of immediate absorption, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The extension has been granted on the existing terms and conditions and follows earlier Railway Board communications issued in March 2025.
Railway Board stated that the approval was accorded by the competent authority and vetted by the Finance Directorate of the Ministry of Railways.
The order was communicated to Southern Railway, Chennai Metro Rail Limited, and other concerned authorities. Railway officials also reiterated that deputationists are required to return to Railway service within one month of completion of their deputation tenure, failing which they may be deemed to have resigned from Railway service as per applicable rules.
The extension ensures continuity in track infrastructure management and operational support at Chennai Metro Rail, one of India’s rapidly expanding urban transit networks.
