Cargo traffic at 10 major ports drops 4.95% to 67.53 MT in Nov
Cargo traffic at the country's major ports declined by 4.95 percent in November, dropping to 67.53 million tonnes from 71.05 million tonnes in the same period last year, according to an industry report.
Among the ports, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and Deendayal Port reported positive growth, while the remaining ten major facilities experienced a year-on-year decrease in cargo traffic, as stated by the Indian Ports Association (IPA).
India has 12 major ports under the control of the central government, which include Deendayal Port (formerly Kandla), Mumbai Port, JNPA, Mormugao Port, New Mangalore Port, Cochin Port, Chennai Port, Kamarajar Port (formerly Ennore), VO Chidambarnar Port, Visakhapatnam Port, Paradip Port, and Kolkata Port, which also includes Haldia.

The cargo traffic at the premier container port JNPA grew 12.34 percent during the month under review whereas Deendayal Port witnessed a 10.10 percent growth year-on-year in November, IPA said.
Cargo traffic at Mormugao Port declined 29.64 percent last month, from last year and New Mangalore Port reported a 19 percent year-on-year drop in cargo traffic, it stated. Other major ports, including Chennai, Visakhapatnam, and Mumbai, also saw a decline in cargo traffic in November over the same month last year, as per IPA.
