New Delhi: Airport Authority of India’s Deoghar Airport started its operations Today, July 12, 2022. The first passenger of the Deoghar to Kolkata flight was handed over his boarding pass by Sh. Sanjeev Kumar, Chairman, AAI, and Sh. Ronojoy Dutta, CEO, IndiGo.
On this occasion Sh. Anil Pathak, Member (Planning), AAI was also present along with other officials from the airport and airlines.
Deoghar Airport also known as Baba Baidyanath Airport, is located in Deoghar, Jharkhand India that have been primarily developed to serve the region of the North-Eastern part of Jharkhand and some districts of South-Eastern Bihar.
This airport is spread over 654 acres and has a 2500 meter-long runway, capable of handling both Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 type of aircraft. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the development of the airport in Jharkhand on 25 May 2018.
The Government of Jharkhand had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in 2013, to develop the airport, to promote religious tourism in the state. Later a tripartite MoU signed with the AAI and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in March 2017, to develop the airport for non-military use of Airbus A320 category aircraft.
