Indian Coast Guard & Gujarat ATS Seize 203 kg Suspected Narcotics Near IMBL
Mumbai: In a swift and coordinated overnight operation on February 16, 2026, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), in close coordination with the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), intercepted a speed boat carrying approximately 203 kilograms of suspected crystalline narcotic substance in the Arabian Sea near the notional International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).
Intelligence-Led Maritime Operation
The operation was launched following corroborated intelligence shared by Gujarat ATS regarding a foreign fishing vessel suspected of involvement in illicit drug trafficking. Acting immediately on the input, an ICG ship deployed under Coast Guard Region (North West) for multi-mission operations was diverted to intercept the suspect vessel.
Despite challenging sea conditions, the Coast Guard ship successfully located the vessel using a combination of human intelligence and advanced technical surveillance systems.
High-Speed Chase and Seizure
On detecting the presence of security forces, the suspect boat attempted to flee. Demonstrating operational readiness and precision, the ICG ship pursued and intercepted the speed boat.
Upon boarding, officials discovered that the vessel was manned by two foreign nationals. A thorough search led to the recovery of 203 packets, each weighing approximately one kilogram, containing a crystalline substance suspected to be narcotics.
Further Investigation Underway
The intercepted boat, the seized contraband, and the apprehended crew members have been brought to Porbandar, Gujarat, for further investigation. Detailed chemical analysis of the seized substance is currently underway to confirm its composition.
This successful operation highlights the continued vigilance and coordination between maritime security forces and state law enforcement agencies in combating drug trafficking along India’s maritime borders.
