At the national level, Indian Railways has electrified 6656 route kilometers in the same period i.e. FY 2022-23, the highest ever in the history.

In the Amrit Mahotsav year of Independence, the Central Railway Electrification Organization, Prayagraj has achieved an unprecedented achievement in the history of the CORE by electrifying 4667 route kilometers (RKM) in a financial year, breaking all its records so far.

Indian Railways electrified 62,119 Route Kilometers (RKMs) till March 01, 2024, which is about 94% of the total broad-gauge network (65,775 RKMs) of Indian Railways. Out of a total of 62,119 Route Kilometers (RKMs), the Central Organization for Railway Electrification (CORE) has carried out electrification work of 47,446 Route Kilometers (RKMs) which is roughly 76% of the electrification work of the entire Indian Railways.

The Central Organization for Railway Electrification (CORE), in conjunction with other organizations, has set a target to electrify all the broad-gauge network routes of Indian Railways by March 2024. The pace of electrification has accelerated over the last decade. Since 2014, a record-breaking 40,318 RKM has been electrified, compared to only 5,047 RKM during 2005-14. It is noteworthy that more than 50% of the total 62,119 RKM electrified so far has been accomplished within the last six years on a Pan-India basis.

The Central Organization for Railway Electrification (CORE) was set up in 1979 under the Ministry of Railways with the main objective of electrification of railway tracks on Indian Railways. To electrify important railway routes to harness maximum benefits from their traffic potential, nine project units of the Central Organization for Railway Electrification (CORE) are operational at Ahmedabad, Ambala, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Secunderabad.
