MIDHANI’s Wide Plate Mill Facility inaugurated by Hon’ble President of India

NEW DELHI- MIDHANI’s Wide Plate Mill set up at its existing Hyderabad Plant was inaugurated by Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu on 27th December, 2022 in the august presence of Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, Governor of Telangana, Mrs. Satyavati Rathod, Minister for Scheduled Tribes, Women and Child Welfare, Government of Telangana, Shri Anurag Vajpayee, Joint Secretary, DIP, Ministry of Defence, Government of India, and Dr. Sanjay Kumar Jha, CMD, MIDHANI, the wide plate mill facility set up at the existing Hyderabad plant of MIDHANI was inaugurated. 

Shri Gowri Sankara Rao, Director (Finance), MIDHANI, Shri T. MuthuKumar, Director (Production & Marketing) and senior officers and employees marked their presence on the occasion.
 
Post inauguration, the Hon’ble President expressed her delight and congratulated all MIDHANIans for setting up such a key project at MIDHANI auguring well with Government’s initiative of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and extended her best wishes as well for the Mill’s successful operation in days to come. 

She praised the state-of-the-art facility and said that this initiative will bring our nation one step closer to fulfilling Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of self-reliant, self-sustaining India.

The President further added that the Plate Products rolled from this Mill will play a major role in catering to the internal requirements of our country, in turn cutting down huge imports over the years. 

She expressed confidence that MIDHANI will successfully meet all the expectations and fulfill the purpose for which it was established and will continue its remarkable journey of excellence in the coming years.

With immense privilege and pride, it is to inform that MIDHANI, a Public Sector Enterprise under Ministry of Defence, is one of the few modern metallurgical plants in the world manufacturing a wide range of Superalloys, Titanium alloys, Special Steels and Stainless Steels, Controlled Expansion Alloys, Heat Resistance Alloys, Special Purpose Alloys, Refractory Metals and Alloys, Magnetic Alloys, Bio-grade Materials in various mill forms using state-of-the-art production facilities. MIDHANI is playing a significant role for supplying materials to various strategic sectors like Space, Defence and Energy since its inception.

Realizing the dreams of a great visionary science administrator and Founder Chairman & Managing Director of the Company Dr. R V Tamhankar, MIDHANI is foraying into diverse businesses and currently modernizing its facilities to meet the increased demand of the strategic sector. 

Moreover, it has taken up a mission to expand & diversify its existing offerings by venturing into new territories such as wide plates, springs, armouring, metal powder etc.
 
In this pursuit, MIDHANI has set up a key facility of National Importance, ‘Wide Plate Mill’ at its existing Hyderabad Plant with an investment of around Rs. 500 Crores for rolling of slabs of various alloys. Product portfolio of the facility includes Plates & Sheets of Special Steel, Superalloy, Stainless Steel, Titanium & Titanium Alloy, Armour grade catering to Indian strategic sectors namely Defence, Space, Energy and Export Market. Due to the Mill’s very high capacity 6,000T roll separating force, the equipment can roll ultra high strength steel in very low thickness.

The Wide Plate Mill facility will meet the requirements of Maraging steel plates for Agni program of ASL, DRDO, plates for Ordnance factories. The Mill is expected to serve as a national facility for development of wide plates that would meet present & future requirements and would also facilitate import substitution.
MIDHANI is expecting a business of around USD 10 Million in export market for the Super Alloy Plate Products & Wider Plates of Stainless and Special Steels rolled from this Mill. 

The foreign markets which are being predominantly targeted are Eastern Europe, Middle East & South Asian countries.
