NEW DELHI- NLC India Limited, the Industrial giant of the South, today (23.03.2023) executed an MoU for yet another community development initiative to supply 425 Lakh Litres of water per day to Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board for the Cuddalore District Combined Water Supply Scheme (CWSS). The MoU was signed by Shri A. Rajasekhara Reddy, ED (Mines), NLCIL and Shri S. Palanivelu, Superintending Engineer, Cuddalore & Villupuram Circle, TWAD Board in the Corporate Office of NLC India Limited, Neyveli in the presence of Dr. Suresh Chandra Suman, Director (Mines) of NLCIL.
The MoU paves way for long term supply of 6500 Gallons per Minute (425.10 lakh litres per day) Mine water from Mine-II of NLCIL for period of 20 years up to 2042-43 for CWSS of TWAD Board for drinking water distribution to 6 town panchayats and 625 villages in Cuddalore District, Tamilnadu.
As per the MoU, NLCIL will supply water for the CWSS Treatment Plant by laying pipeline from its discharge point upto 2042-43 i.e, till end of Mine life.
Government of Tamilnadu has implemented the CWSS by utilizing NLCIL Mine water as source water to cater the drinking water needs of 7.91 Lakh people in Cuddalore District at the project installation cost of Rs. 479 Crore and annual maintenance cost of Rs.7.56 Crore. The Combined Water Supply Scheme with water treatment plant is nearing completion stage.
By implementation of this Combined Water Supply Scheme, NLCIL mines water from Mine-II will be treated and supplied to 6 town panchyats viz., Gangaikondan, Vadalur, Kurinjipadi, Thittakudi, Pennadam and Mangalampettai and other 625 rural habitations covering Mangalore, Nallur and Vridhachalam Unions in Cuddalore District as protected drinking water through pipe lines. About 7.91 Lakh people will be benefitted by NLCIL Mine water.
The event was witnessed by Shri I. S. Jasper Rose, ED (SME, Land & Mine Planning), NLCIL and Shri S. Rajmohan, CGM, Mine-II, Senior officials of NLCIL and Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board.
In addition to the above, NLCIL is supplying 4000GPM of mine water to Chennai Metro Water Supply Scheme from Mine-IA since 2017. As a social responsible organisation, NLCIL is providing many welfare schemes to surrounding villages viz., establishing bore wells for drinking water supply, De-silting and strengthening of lakes and ponds and irrigation water supply to downstream villages under NLCIL CSR scheme.
