PM Shri Narendra Modi inaugurates Atal tunnel prime-minister-of-india-news
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (October, 3, 2020) inaugurates the Atal Tunnel while travelled from the South Portal of Atal Tunnel in Rohtang to the North Portal in Sissu of Lahaul Valley on Saturday, said it is a historic day for the residents of the area as they will benefit in many ways.
The Prime minister said, the dream of Vajpayee ji came true. While tweeted he said, “This is an iconic infrastructure project built at a height of 10,000 feet." He said the tunnel will help the region to develop. "The #AtalTunnel will solve a major problem of connectivity in the region. It has several salient features and will further 'Ease of Living' for local citizens. Will also join public programmes in Sissu in Lahaul Spiti and at Solang Valley."
He also mentioned lots of things related to the development of the infrastructure and the benefits of the common people, he said “Many other important projects were treated in the same way as Atal tunnel. The strategically important Daulat Beg Oldi airstrip in Ladakh remained closed for 40–45 years. I don’t want to go into details as to what was the helplessness and the pressure behind it.”
The tunnel has been named on the former prime minister shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee to give the honor and contribution towards this project. This strategic tunnel is wished to be constructed by him below the Rohtang Pass on June 3, 2000. The foundation was laid on May 26, 2002.
