He has been appointed to the post "for two years from the date of assumption of charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier".

Rahul Navin appointed as full time chief of ED

Acting Enforcement Directorate (ED) chief Rahul Navin was appointed as the full-time director of the anti-money laundering agency. Mr. Navin is a 1993-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of the Income Tax cadre.

He has been appointed to the post "for two years from the date of assumption of charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier".

Mr. Navin joined the ED in November 2019 as a Special Director (OSD). He spearheaded the agency's work on India's mutual evaluation by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). He was appointed as the acting director of the ED after his predecessor Sanjay Kumar Mishra's tenure ended on September 15, 2023.

He has studied B. Tech and M. Tech from IIT Kanpur and has done MBA from the Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne. An expert in international taxation matters, he has worked in the I-T Department for 30 years. During his tenure in the international taxation wing, the I-T department raised demands on several offshore transactions including in the Vodafone case.
