WCL planted More than 5 lakh saplings in year 2023-24

Environmental protection has always been an important subject for WCL, along with playing an important role in fulfilling the coal requirements of the country, WCL is also making active contribution in environmental protection. 

Bioreclamation and large plantations are an important part of the major activities to promote conservation. Taking forward the concept of sustainable development, in the year 2023-24, WCL has planted 5,31,520 saplings on 227.11 hectares of land.

For the continuous work of large plantation, WCL has signed MoU with the state level expert organization for 5 years. This MoU also includes the work of taking care of the plants for 4 years after plantation. Under this initiative, a maximum of 3500 saplings per hectare are planted on overburden dumps and a maximum of 2500 saplings per hectare on normal mine sites. Among these plants, fruit species, medicinal plants, strong woody plants and ornamental plants are planted. Along with tall trees, trees of medium height and low height are also included in plantation.

Tree plantation in WCL is mainly done for the reclamation of overburdened and backed areas, the development of greenery around mines and avenue plantation on coal transportation routes. Through this medium, efforts are made to restore the fertility of the land in overburden and backfield areas. Green belts and avenue plantations improve air quality and improve the local environment. This effort of WCL in the interest of the environment is proving helpful in human progress as well as environmental protection.
