India advances clean energy with Rs. 42,000 crore Nuclear power plant in Rajasthan
India currently has 8.8GW installed nuclear power generation capacity, and plans to raise 100 GW by 2047.

Mumbai, 19th September 2025: India is accelerating its clean energy transition with an ambitious target of scaling nuclear power capacity to 100 GW by 2047. In line with this vision, the foundation stone of the country’s nuclear power project will be laid on September 25 in Banswara district, Rajasthan, marking a significant milestone in strengthening the nation’s energy security and advancing its sustainability goals.
The Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (MBRAPP), comprising 4 x 700 MW units and an investment of about Rs 42,000 crore, will be developed by ASHVINI (Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam Limited), a joint venture of NPCIL and NTPC Limited.

The state-of-the-art project is expected to significantly strengthen the nation’s energy security, generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, and spur socio-economic growth by enhancing local infrastructure in the Banswara district.

To boost the sector, the government allocated about Rs 20,000 crore in the recent Union Budget. Nuclear power is favored for its low emissions and its ability to provide reliable baseload electricity.
The first unit is expected to be commissioned by 2031.
